Rick Woodson

Rick’s journey in golf has been one of a lifetime. He’s been coaching full time since 2002 and at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson, TX for 8 years.

Rick played 12 years as a professional golfer, playing as a member of the PGA Korn Ferry Tour (then web.com tour) and the PGA Tour Canada.

He has been a member of the PGA since 2001.

Some of Rick’s playing accomplishments:
-14 professional wins
-2018 NTPGA Pro-Assistant Team Championship (with Ronny Glanton)
-2010 NTPGA Section Champion which qualified him to play the 2011 PGA Tour Byron Nelson Classic
-Qualified for 4 PGA Sr Professional Championship
-Qualified for 2022 PGA Professional Championship – PGA Professional’s most prestigious and most difficult event to qualify for.

In 1986, he moved to Florida to work in the golf business and play Florida mini-tours. Rick began his professional career working as an assistant club pro in in Orlando, FL.

In 2002, Rick decided to devote his career to a full time teaching professional. He began teaching at Woodbridge Golf Club in Wylie, TX, at the time NTPGA (North Texas PGA) headquarters.

As a golf instructor and coach, Rick is in high demand.  He has been recognized as the 2019 Northern Texas PGA Section Teacher of the Year and 2019 Northern Texas PGA Metro Chapter Teacher of the Year.

Rick is quoted as saying that during his playing days he would have given anything to have had a true mentor not just an instructor. He vowed as a coach to be more than an instructor. “Without doubt, if players are to succeed they need more than swing instruction. I feel establishing a team relationship with golfers has made valuable positive influences towards their life skills, and golf development.”

Rick’s teaching philosophy is one to help all golfers.  “I don’t believe there is a universal method to swing the golf club, but each player needs to gain ownership of their “fingerprint” golf swing.

One thing for sure, every golfer I’ve coached is unique. I believe golf coaches need to have the ability to discuss and demonstrate swing concepts many different ways depending on how the student processes information. Video, TrackMan, 3-D, swing demonstration, drills, pictures are all part of my teaching tool chest. My goal for each and every golfer is they will leave better than they arrived!”

Rick is currently coaching players of all levels including touring professionals, elite juniors and club golfers.
